Biodiversité des forêtsTaxonomieDiversity of amphibians in the north eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo
This thesis was focused on the diversity of amphibian fauna in the north-eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. The forest habitats of the north-eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo are known to harbours an important biodiversity. This study aim was to evaluate the amphibian diversity in differents localities where no previousily work on amphibian was executed. In point of view species diversity, differents sampled are rich in amphibian species.
The results of this thesis show that this part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo harbours a high number species of amphibian. This diversity in localities sampled varies from one locality to another. The forest part of this country need to be inventoried which will increase species number of amphibians. Based on morphological traits the amphibian collected from Tshuapa Lomami Lualaba, Reserve de Chasse de Rubi-Tele, la foret de Uma, Kponyo village, Yoko Forest Reserve and Mombongo revealed fifty three morphospecies of amphibian and 5 identify only to genus level. The Arthroleptidae, Hyperoliidae and Bufonidae are the best represented families with seventeen species, fourteen species and ten species respectively.
The most common species encountered were forest species as such Leptopelis brevirostris, Amnirana albolabris, Phrynobatrachus auritus, with other species wich invade altered habitat as such Sclerophrys maculata, Sclerophrys regularis, Hoplobatrachus occipitalis and Ptychadena mascareniensis. Some species were very rare to be detected in the localities sampled: Hyperolius sankuruensis, Hyperolius bolifambae, Hyperolius kuligae, Hyperolius cf nasutus, Amnirana lepus, Hemisus cf sudanesis, Ptychadena christyi, Ptychadena aequip/icata, Cardioglossa leucomystax, Cardioglossa gratiosa and C. gracilis, Arthroleptis
variabilis, Arthroleptis adelphus, Arthroleptis poecilonotus, Amietia desaegeri, Aubria masako, Nectophryne batesii, Sclerophrys cf camerunensis, S.tuberosa, S. cf gutturalis and Hymenochirus boettgeri. The genus Hyperolius is the most common and speciose genus with (10 species), followed by Leptopelis and Sclerophrys (8 species each).
Based on the results obtained using Jaccard index. The four localities are grouped into biogeographically differentiated units due to low similarity between localities and absence of affinity between populations. Human impacted and pristine areas of northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, the urgent need for a complete inventory, description and classification of tropical amphibians. The vast amounts of data collected in the field must be assembled and organized.
