L'étude des Ophidiens du Haut-Zaire est abordée durant la période de Décembre 1978 à Mai 1979. 61 Serpents furent récoltés uniquement à travers la ville de Kisangani et ses Zones annexes. Cet effectif a été enrichi de 112 Serpents venant d'autres endroits du haut-Zaire.Les 173 Serpents sont répartis en 29 genres et 37 espèces parmi lesquels 10 genres sont dangereux pour l'homme:Boiga, Thelotornis, Boulengerina, Naja,Atheris,et Atractaspis.
