Dans les 40 stations choisies arbitrairement sur l'Î1e Kongolo, nous avons déterminé 16 genres qui cunstruisent des termitières épigees et arboricoles. Les 16 genres appartiennent à la famille des termitidae. La sous-famille des thermitinae y est très abondamment représentée; celle des macrotermitinae est peu moins. Le genre principal est cubitermes qui constitue 28,21% des colonies récoltées. Les autres genres sont peu abondants ou même rares. Cubitermes est répandu dans les quatre groupements retenus. Six genres sont confinés dans la forêt primaire. La densité des termitières épigées et arboricoles est de 432,5 termitières par hectare. Ces termitières sont plut8t petites et 37,5% sont vides. 43,35% sont associées aux arbres. Trois types d'associations intargénériques ont également été mis en évidence.
