Le monde contemporain, prisonnier d’un développement en marge d’éthique, semble être pris au piège de la déforestation bouleversant les équilibres entre l’homme et la nature et induisant ainsi au changement climatique, à la disparition progressive des espèces tant végétales qu’animales ainsi qu’à la destruction de leurs habitats (Villeneuve, 1999).Dans les forêts tropicales humides, la déforestation principalement due à l’agriculture itinérante sur brûlis a atteint selon la FAO (2011) un rythme annuel de 3 millions d’hectares entre 2000 et 2010 et représente à elle seule près de 15% de la déforestation. Les études menées par le CIFOR (2007) ont révélé que la cause principale du déboisement en Afrique serait attribuée aux petits exploitants agricoles, qui détruisent la forêt par la pratique de l’agriculture itinérante sur brûlis.
